Alpaca foals, also called crias, are born without antibodies and completely dependent on the mother’s colostrum. In most cases, alpaca colostrum is immediately available from the dam when her foal is born. However, situations may occur where colostrum is not available, for example if the mother produces little to no colostrum, or dies during or shortly after the birth.
CapraCol® offers an excellent solution for these undesired situations - a top colostrum replacer or supplement made from the first milking of cows. CapraCol® colostrum powder contains a rich serving of antibodies and a wide range of health-promoting components. These include the antibacterial enzymes lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase and lysozymes. CapraCol® also contributes to healthy alpaca digestion.
CapraCol® ensures your baby alpaca has easy access to essential nutrients and immune-system enhancers when dam colostrum is unavailable or limited.
Instructions
Dissolve 100 – 125 grams CapraCol® in 300 - 375 ml warm water (43-45°C). Stir well and administer directly within 6 hours after birth in one or two doses.
The recommended colostrum dose is based on an average foal weight of 6 kg. The rule of thumb in colostrum dosing for alpaca foals is equal millilitres to 10% bodyweight - 600 ml. To produce 600 ml of top-quality colostrum in liquid form, you need around 100g of CapraCol® colostrum powder.
